The Dooars or Duars are the alluvial floodplains in eastern-northeastern India that lie south of the outer foothills of the Himalayas and north of the Brahmaputra River basin.
Gorumara National Park
Gorumara National Park is an important national park of North Bengal. It is situated just at the foot hills of Eastern Himalaya in Terai region, on the flood plains in Murti, Raidak. Jaldhaka a tributary of Brahmaputra flows just beside the National Park. Gorumara has mixed vegetation of forest and grassland. Sited at a distance of 72km from the bustling city Siliguri and 30km from Chalsa adjacent to Gorumara National Park is one of the oldest forest reserves of West Bengal called Chapramari. Crowned as a National Wildlife Sanctuary in 1998, Chapramari is practically the continuation of Gorumara National Park which is the home of famous Asiatic one-horned Rhino. Chapramari with its vast collection of wildlife species and verdant forest has hyped the interest of tourist who wants to explore the wild side of Dooars region. Chapramari watchtower is considered to be the prime attraction of Chapramari. The name Chapramari probably derives from "Chopra" which means a type of fish and "Mari" which means abundant.
